Geneva English School
We want our children to find their music learning motivating, interesting and stimulating.
In the classroom
The children discover music through singing, movement, dance and instrumental activities. In their lessons, they explore the main concepts of music (rhythm, melody, texture, tone, colour, dynamics and form) through the elements of composing, improvising, performing, listening and appraising.
From Years 1 to 6, children have an instrument focus every year:
- Year 1: ocarinas
- Year 2: recorders
- Year 3: violin
- Year 4: jSax
- Year 5: ukulele
- Year 6: keyboards
Music at GES has been growing at an exciting rate in recent years and we are now proud to offer lessons with our visiting music teachers in a diverse range of instruments. Options include piano, violin, viola, cello, saxophone, flute, recorder, clarinet, guitar (classical, jazz or “sing and strum”), drumming and singing. The music lessons take place weekly, usually for 30 minutes and are rotated each week to ensure pupils do not miss the same lesson.
To complement this, we have a range of extra-curricular music clubs at both campuses to allow our music pupils the experience of playing in a group and we also hold music recitals to give our pupils the chance to perform to their families and peers. This includes orchestra, composition club, foley club and band.
