The excellence of A Levels around the world – Daniel Crabtree, Head of Sixth Form

Date Posted: Friday 28 May 2021

It’s commonly said that A Levels are the gold standard of post-16 qualifications, recognised internationally by both universities and employers.

Advanced Level (A Level) speaks to the academic rigour of the qualification, achievement recognised in a simple and consistent grading from A*-E, making A Levels a trusted currency of educational achievement across time and place.

While this is undoubtedly true, with A Levels studied in over 130 countries and university offers from around the world recognising the academic depth and challenge of A Level qualifications in their assessment of applicants, an A Level education provides much more. A Level provides students with the depth of knowledge and maturity of skills to excel as they progress to university (undergraduate) study, particularly on prestigious courses at highly selective institutions. Our A Level programme enables students to personalise the curriculum to meet their needs and ambitions, selecting three or four A Level courses, alongside the breadth of experience provided by the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), Duke of Edinburgh Award and European language qualifications in our enriched curriculum.

Strength of GES

Our A Level programme is an exciting extension of the established success of GES Secondary and its GCSE provision. Our A Level provision provides progression for existing students, a new opportunity to those moving on from studying in local Swiss and French schools and students returning or relocating to Geneva.

Our teaching team is experienced and primed to provide each of our students with an outstanding learning experience which will result in excellent outcomes and also the enriched experience for which GES is renowned. We understand and believe that our students’ post-16 experiences provide them with the knowledge, confidence, insight and aspiration to fulfill their future ambitions. We achieve this by knowing each of our students; listening, advising and developing each individual to be informed, articulate, ambitious, compassionate, considered and confident young adults ready to thrive in the world when the time comes to leave us.

A particular strength of the GES A Level team is our experience of, and investment in, advising and preparing our students to successfully progress to prestigious and highly competitive universities and degree courses in the UK, US, Canada, Switzerland, other European countries and beyond. My personal experience of successfully preparing students for applications to the universities of Oxford and Cambridge specifically and the Russell Group in the UK, Ivy League in the US and selective universities across Europe will complement the current strengths for the benefit of our students. Our team has particular experience of supporting students to apply for highly selective and competitive courses such as Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Science and Law.

The breadth of our A Level curriculum offer, including subjects such as Maths, Further Maths, Art & Design, Physics, History, Economics and Computer Science, enables us to best prepare students to progress to selective courses in desirable professions including Engineering, Architecture, Law, Management & Finance and International Development.

Get in touch and we would be delighted to discuss the benefits as well as the opportunities that come with studying A Levels at GES.
